1. The Purpose of Lubrication Is to Make the Machine Run Faster

Lubrication is not intended simply to increase machine speed.

The main purpose is to maintain an appropriate lubrication condition between moving components, reduce friction and wear, and prevent failures caused by inadequate lubrication.

A properly lubricated machine can operate more reliably and maintain stable production performance. This can improve productivity and reduce maintenance-related costs over the long term.

The correct approach is not to make the machine run faster than its designed operating range, but to keep the equipment running smoothly under the manufacturer’s specified conditions.

2. Lubrication Means Simply Adding Oil

Adding oil or grease is only one part of a lubrication program.

Each machine should have a defined lubrication schedule covering:

In a gearbox, excessive oil can increase gear drag and contribute to higher oil temperatures. The appropriate immersion depth depends on the gearbox design, gear speed, and lubricant system. For some gear drives, only part of the gear should be immersed in the oil, while higher-speed applications may require a lower oil level.

Rolling bearings are another common example.

When adding grease to a bearing, completely filling the bearing cavity can increase running resistance and generate additional heat. Excess grease may also migrate out of the bearing during operation, potentially resulting in poor lubrication and premature bearing damage.

Having oil in a machine does not automatically mean that the equipment is properly lubricated.

  • Component type

should all be considered when selecting a lubricant.

This is particularly important for stone processing machinery, where cutting dust, water, abrasive particles, vibration, and heavy operating loads can place additional demands on machine components.
