When decorating cabinets and other homes with high hardness requirements, many families often choose quartz stone that is not easy to scratch, not easy to age, and not easy to flammable as the main decorative material. However, the quality of quartz stone slabs on the market varies greatly, and consumers often don’t know where to start when choosing. The following are some methods to quickly identify the quality of quartz stone:
One: Hydrochloric acid immersion test.
In order to maximize profits, some quartz stone manufacturers will add calcium carbonate to the raw materials used to produce quartz stone. Calcium carbonate reacts easily with acid. After purchasing such countertops, it is easy to deteriorate in subsequent use. Therefore, when purchasing, you can ask for a sample and soak it in dilute hydrochloric acid or other acidic liquids. If the product contains calcium carbonate, calcium carbonate will react with acid and bubbles will appear.
Two: Detect stain permeability.
The surface and internal structure of high-quality quartz stone are delicate and uniform, with low water absorption and strong permeability; while inferior quartz plates are often limited to similar appearance, but the internal structure is loose and porous, with weak permeability, high water absorption, and easy to be penetrated by stains. When purchasing, you can pour soy sauce on the quartz plate to check whether it will bleed. Inferior quartz countertops will bleed in one day, while high-quality quartz countertops will not.
Three: Scrape with a knife to test wear resistance.
The main component of quartz plate is silicon dioxide, which has a high hardness. The quartz plate on the market is generally marked with a quartz content of more than 90%, so the possibility of cracking is small and it is also more wear-resistant. Inferior quartz sand has poor quality, high impurity content, low surface hardness, and is easy to scratch. When purchasing, you can scrape it with a knife.
4: Use fire to check heat resistance.
Inferior quartz sand has poor quality and high resin content, which will also reduce heat resistance. Therefore, you can take advantage of this and burn the sample with a lighter or similar tool to see if there are burn marks.
